What Causes the Steam Disk Write Error The Steam disk write error appears when Steam fails to download or save game files to your hard drive. It could be Windows Update or some Antivirus software you have on your system. If that is not the case, its likely some software blocking the write. I recommend looking at the disk's health first. Once that's done, go back to your steam downloads and hit the update button. Its not a connection issue, it seems more like that something is blocking its write on the disk. In the "Common Folder" you should find this blank white file with the name of the game that's giving the issue associated with it, its has no extension, just a blank white file with no data. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common Press the Windows key + X and select the Device Manager option. Another way to repair corrupted files is through Steam’s integrity checker. Make sure you've selected the drive you're trying to install games on in the drop. First, open your Steam settings and switch to the Storage tab. Finally, select Verify integrity of game cache and wait for the process to complete. There are a couple of tricks we can try to fix it. However, I think I may have found a very simple solution that actually works, at least it did for me! Right-click on DotA 2 and select Properties.
